The Project
This bathroom had an old shower that was leaking behind the walls. Instead of patching over it, we opened everything up to the studs so we could see exactly what we were working with: aging copper, a rotted base, and no real waterproofing anywhere.
We re-ran the hot and cold lines in PEX, set a brand-new shower base, and built the walls back with cement board and foam backer board. A 40-mil PVC pan liner went under a sloped mud bed, and every seam, corner, and screw head got a liquid waterproofing membrane before a single tile went up.
For the finish, the homeowners picked a large-format marble-look porcelain with a wave texture for the shower walls, a matching flat marble-look tile for the floor, and a gold-trimmed niche so the shower has a real focal point. New toilet, new valve trim, new vanity, and a floor-to-ceiling result that looks like it came out of a magazine.
Old tile, backer, and base removed so we could inspect framing and plumbing.
PEX supply lines, new mixing valve, and a level, properly supported shower pan.
40-mil PVC liner under a sloped mortar bed so water always finds the drain.
Cement board and foam board, every joint and fastener sealed with liquid membrane.
Wave-textured marble-look walls, gold-trim niche, pebble accents, new floor, fixtures installed.
